IMAGERY that enchants.
What a year! Looking back, we are not even sure what thrilled us the most. Philip Glass was blown away by the ballet Amy created to his Les Enfants Terribles for Opera Parallèle. Amy was the first to be awarded a National Artist Residency from the Joyce Theater in New York City. And Imagery wowed audiences at the Cowell Theater, Joyce Theater, and Jacob’s Pillow with Amy’s first evening-length work, Wandering. Finally, we are proud we were able to offer our dancers twice as many weeks of paid work as we did in 2016. One thing is for sure, it was the year Amy dove head first into storytelling, and it has been an incredible journey.
2018 is going to be a different year for Imagery. With Amy’s appointment as Artistic Director of Sacramento Ballet, we will be shifting gears slightly, but Imagery and SKETCH are here to stay. Upholding its original intent of being a creative ballet laboratory, SKETCH 8 will open at ODC Theater on June 28 premiering new works by three fierce female choreographers: Jennifer Archibald, Gabrielle Lamb, and Amy Seiwert. Together with our Imagery collaborators, they will create based on the theme of Origin Stories.
Imagery is evolving, innovating, and thriving. And it is because of your belief in us and the support you provide.
The reality of being a nonprofit is that we can’t do it without you. Thank you for being there with us. Please help us end 2017 on a high note and launch us into 2018, where we will continue breaking preconceptions of what ballet is and can be.
