Amy Seiwert kicks off her first season as Artistic Director with Sacramento Ballet. The first program will feature two SKETCH favorites: Seiwert's Instructions, based on Neil Gaiman's poem by the same name and Adam Houghland's Cigarettes inspired by multiple interpretations of Patsy Cline’s song Two Cigarettes in an Ashtray. Other ballets on the bill are Ron Cunningham's Incident at Blackbriar and a world premiere by heralded choreographer Penny Saunders.
Stay tuned for the 9th iteration of Imagery's celebrated SKETCH Series, an annual creative laboratory which provides a safe place for risk-taking in ballet-based choreography. During an intensive 6-week rehearsal period three choreographers will each create a new ballet for the eight dancers of Amy Seiwert’s Imagery. We will be exploring new potentials on utilizing projection as a theatrical lighting source, stepping out of the traditional mindset of how to light a ballet. New works by Amy Seiwert, Artistic Fellow Ben Needham-Wood, and one choreographer yet to be revealed.
