AMY SEIWERT’S IMAGERY - MARCH to CLOSURE

Starting August  2023, Amy Seiwert will step into the role of Associate Artistic Director at  Smuin Contemporary Ballet. Collectively, Amy, our staff, and the ASI Board of Directors have decided that SKETCH 13 will be our last SKETCH. Imagery will continue our planned programming through December, and the company will officially close by March 31, 2024. This news is bittersweet for all of us, but we look back with tremendous joy and gratitude on 13 years of creative risk-taking and innovation.

We have created this FAQ page to answer questions you might have. Still questions? Feel free to reach out to our Managing Director, Annika Presley.

Q: When will the company officially close?
The company will officially close by March 31, 2024

Q: What will the rest of 2023 look like for ASI?
Amy will continue to work full-time with ASI throughout the season as we continue our planned operations for 2023, specifically:

  • Present SKETCH 13: Lucky at ODC Theater July 28-30, 2023.

  • Continue to guide and support Artistic Fellow Natasha Adorlee through the second year of her paid fellowship ending on December 31, 2023.

  • Present SKETCH 13 On-Demand.

  • Present the final showing of Natasha Adorlee’s Commission “Blooming Flowers and the Full Moon” in the fall of 2023.

  • Premiere the Dance Film Organized Hope.

  • Continue to employ and pay all dancers, collaborators, contractors, and staff.

Q: ASI is actively fundraising. What will happen with the company’s surplus?
ASI aims to end Q1 2024 with $0 in the bank.
As required by law, a nonprofit organization that is ceasing existence is required to transfer all remaining assets to another tax-exempt organization. Any donations to ASI that exceed our needs will be donated to Smuin Ballet after 3/31/24 and will be earmarked for the creation of new works.

Q: Why will you close on March 31, 2024 and not December 31, 2023?
After we have finalized our 2023 programming, we need time to officially wind up everything to make sure we are in compliance with California Law. Once we have done that, we can officially disolve.
